lull Mattress Review

Overview

The founders of Lull believe that better sleep equals a better life and they set out to create a premium mattress at an accessible price point. Made with high-quality materials, Lull mattresses use advanced cooling technology and proprietary materials to create an exceptional sleep experience at a lower price than many other boxed mattress companies.

Lull offers three medium-firm mattress models; their Original, 3-layer foam mattress, their Original Premium 4-layer foam mattress, and their 6-layer Luxe Hybrid Mattress.

While the Lull Original remains their most popular model, the additional features of the Original Premium and the Luxe Hybrid may appeal to a number of customers. Both The Original and the Premium Original options are ideal for those who want an all-foam mattress that stays cool and is quiet and minimizes motion transfer. The Hybrid is the optimal choice for anyone who prefers the additional bounce and edge support of a coil system.

Every Lull mattress uses highly responsive foam that is contouring but bounces back quickly. They also include layers for therapeutic pressure relief, active cooling technology, a responsive transition layer, a durable base layer, and breathable covers. Every model is designed to provide comfort and support in all sleeping positions.

Lull ships their mattresses in a box for free in the contiguous US, typically in 1-4 business days. You’ll be able to try your mattress for an entire year (365 nights) if you’re not in love with your mattress, returns are quick and easy. All mattress models can be used with any type of bed frame. Lull stands behind the long-term durability of their mattresses with a lifetime warranty.

Sizes & Pricing

Available in all standard sizes, the DreamCloud Hybrid is suited for all traditional bed frames and runs from a Twin up to a California King. Because of this range, you can easily pair the mattress with the frame you currently have, meaning you don’t have to rush out to select a specialty frame to accommodate it.

Not only will the DreamCloud Hybrid fit nicely on the frame of your choosing, but you can also use it with or without a box spring. At 14’’ in height, it is tall enough to use on its own, although you are welcome to place it on top of a box spring if you do desire a bit of extra height. DreamCloud also offers the DreamCloud Premier Rest with is 16’’ and also available in all standard sizes.

When purchasing the mattress, DreamCloud does sell its own line of bases so you can build a package if you are interested in fully upgrading your bedroom. Offering a platform bed, adjustable frame, and a stylish headboard you can easily pick and choose at checkout to customize your perfect design.

As for pricing, hybrid mattresses do typically run more expensive than their all-foam or innerspring counterparts and the average hybrid tends to be around $1,500 for a queen. Construction

A hybrid mattress is one that combines the comfort of the foam with the support of an innerspring, and that is exactly what you will find contained within the DreamCloud. Comprised of 14’’ of pressure-relieving foam and targeted-support coils, the team at DreamCloud have managed to create the holy grail that will cradle you off to sleep each night and leave you waking up feeling rested and rejuvenated.

Cover

The first thing you will notice is the soft-to-the-touch cashmere cover that envelops the mattress as well as the quilted top that sinks in as you touch it. This area is where your body will make contact and DreamCloud has put extra effort into making sure it stays comfortable without retaining heat, leaving you feeling cool throughout the night. Available in both a Tight Top or Euro Top, DreamCloud has something for everyone.

Comfort Layers

The next two layers are going to be the foam components, with a gel memory foam on top and a transitional polyfoam layer below it. Gel memory foam is hailed for it’s superior contouring properties, allowing your hips or shoulders to sink in comfortably while still supporting your lower back and neck. Polyfoam, on the other hand, will help create that ‘sinking-in’ feeling that people love about foam mattresses, but provides enough bounce that you never feel trapped. The Premier Rest also comes with an additional two inches of enhanced foam support.

Transitional Layer

Creating custom relief and targeted support, the bottom innerspring coil layer will adapt to your body throughout the night and give you a firm support base so that you don’t wake up feeling sore. Not only that, but having an innerspring coil layer can help to keep your bed comfortable longer as it is less likely to sag than mattresses made from just foam. This layer will also provide added bounce making it easier to switch positions. Due to the coils being evenly spaced out, the innerspring portion benefits from the enhanced airflow and you should notice that this mattress sleeps cooler even on hot summer nights.

Base Layer

Finally, the DreamCloud Hybrid is finished off with its essential base layer that keeps everything together and gives you long-lasting durability so you can enjoy your mattress for years to come.

Rating

When rating a mattress there are a number of personal factors to consider that can impact how each individual feels and responds to the model. For example, individuals who weigh under 130 lbs. may find a mattress to be more firm than someone who is over 230 lbs., simply because the difference in weight can change how much you sink in and how well it contours to your body. Because of this, ratings can only be generalized using what the majority of sleepers have found, and your individual factors may mean you experience it differently. This is why the 365-night sleep trial is so beneficial, as it allows for you to test the mattress out yourself and make sure it is right for you.

Firmness -- 6.5/10

For the average person, the DreamCloud Hybrid should fall somewhere between a 6 or 7 on the firmness scale, making it very middle of the road, medium firm. This is a great choice for side sleepers, back sleepers, and combo sleeps. The only group who may find it not supportive enough is lightweight stomach sleepers.

Temperature -- 4/5

Thanks to the innerspring coils, this mattress tends to have good airflow and will keep you cool throughout the night. The memory foam on top does have a tendency to retain heat but the cashmere cover has moisture-wicking properties that will help combat this.

Pressure Relief - 4/5

Hybrid mattresses almost always perform well in this category as they strike that perfect balance between comfort and support. Since the DreamCloud is built using two unique foams and utilizes individually wrapped coils it does a great job of relieving pressure around the shoulders and hips and can reduce nightly aches and pains.

Motion Isolation - 3/5

Mattresses that include the use of coils will ultimately have more bounce than an all-foam model, which impacts its ability to reduce motion transfer. Couples will be most impacted by this and if you have a bed partner who tosses and turns all night, you may find that you feel more of it than if you were to select an all-form design.
